Georg Friedrich Handel (1685–1759) was a German-British Baroque composer, born in Halle (Saale). He is world-famous for his Messiah (1741) and the Hallelujah chorus. The Händel-Haus on Große Nikolaistraße is his birthplace and today a museum.
